For price comparison, the model with the closest specifications that I have seen on Amazon, the Great Northern Popcorn Red Roosevelt Antique Style Popcorn Popper Machine with 8-Ounce Kettle is sometimes priced more and sometimes less on Amazon, but it is not as attractive as the Funtime since they removed the lower painted trim and tacked on a small storage area according to the description. I scrutinized different models on Amazon more carefully and realized that the Funtime popper is larger than most (including the Great Northern) and it has a more convenient split front door hinged on either side that most others do not have. Carefully check the "Product Dimensions" on any model you are considering and there is a lot of variation on the sizes, and check the pictures to notice if the door is hinged on only one side. You may be surprised how cramped it is after you get it (then again a smaller footprint might suit you). Another variable is the heating wattage and this is the highest I found on a non-commercially priced popper. Probably why it gets the oil steaming so fast.
We have now used inexpensive Kroger brand popcorn with Nutiva Organic Extra Virgin Coconut Oil, 15-Ounce Tubs (Pack of 2) in our Funtime popper and it came out better than the two kinds of prepackaged corn we bought. If you don't want to eat it plain, we tried several shake on cheese and herb variations and all were delicious. This is also a cheaper alternative. The two brands of prepackaged we bought were okay but nothing special: Country Harvest Popcorn Portion-Pack for 8-Ounce Poppers (Regular Case, 24-Count) and Great Northern Popcorn, 8-Ounce Portion Packs (Pack of 24). Even though the packaging was identical on these two (except the printing) my wife and I agreed that the Great Northern taste was much too salty and we ended up using less than half of their seasoning to ameliorate that problem.

Our popper has exceeded our expectations. It pops faster than is stated, and the eight ounce servings can be cranked out fast to cater to a large crowd. Oil is steaming in about 90 seconds and about three minutes later the corn is popped. Very fast and just what we needed. It cleans up relatively easily by just wiping it with a warm dish cloth and paper towels after rinsing the kettle out with hot water. A bonus is that kids and adults light up when they see it and all have said the popcorn tastes great. So far we have only used the pre-measured corn and oil as I bought a case and we haven't finished all of that yet. But it looks like measuring out your own corn/oil will work just as well.
Finally, someone at the local hardware store has a popper they use to give customers free popcorn. One day I was there and they had caramel corn. I mentioned to the owner that I had just bought a popper and he gave us a packet of Gold Meadow caramel glaze to try. I had no idea you could buy a glaze and use this to make caramel corn but it does. It's messy to clean up, but hey, it's caramel corn!
