Wanted a large substantial machine that was not a lot of money. Finally settled on the Funtime FT825CB (Black)
I was actually willing to spend about twice as much as the Funtime but after reading all the review this machine seemed better than the more expensive models. It also had the look I wanted, which was important.
We've made popcorn at least every other day, but often 3 times a day since we got this machine in March!! It's quite a work horse! It's perfect for us!
PROs:
- Easy to clean! Double doors mean you can get in with both hands and clean all the sides easily. We don't even use cleaner, just wipe with a microfiber or papertowel.
- Easy to fill and make popcorn.
- Makes great popcorn (We use coconut oil, cheap store brand popcorn and some flavacol! Haven't even tried the packs yet... what for? We love it with our own recipe.)
- Inexpensive for an 8 oz kettle!
- Larger footprint. This could be a con for you though. Make sure you realize how large it is. I wanted a large and substantial looking machine as a focal point in the room.
- Simple to make multiple batches, no need to even clean between rounds.
- Fast popping, fast start for next batch (we have a big family and the popcorn goes quickly!) I do two 1/2cup batches if everyone's having some. The 1/2cup batches result in less old maids (unpopped kernels) but if you are in a hurry doing a full cup is fine!
- If there are leftovers we just leave them in the machine and eat it the next day. If you turn the lamp back on it crisps up. It's not "fresh popped" tasting but it's still really good!
- I'm sure there are more pros that I can't think of right now.
CONs
- When I received it the lamp was hanging out of the top. I tried for a long time to screw it up into the housing and it just wouldn't seat itself. Finally, I grabbed my drill and took the top panel off and fixed it in 5 minutes. It was a simple fix but I was less than happy about it not being ready to go right away. I could see someone having returned it due to this issue, not knowing how simple it was to fix.
- I wish the kettle dumped a little bit more. It only goes to 90 degrees and I've seen other machine that flip totally upside-down to dump.
- Cord could be longer, I want to put it on a side sofa table where there is only a lower outlet and it must go right above the outlet to reach.
- I cut my finger on the edge of the included scoop yesterday. It's a teeny papercut type thing but the scoop is a bit sharp.
To be honest, the Cons aren't really a factor for me, I just tried to be fair and mention anything I thought was a negative.
I love this machine and I'm SO glad I got it.
TIP: Open the doors when you begin popping (at least until things start flying) to get the steam out of the cabinet.
